Alexander Zhilkin was born August 26, 1959 in the village of Colored Valadarski region Astrakhan region.
In 1981 he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics of the Astrakhan State Pedagogical Institute.
After graduating in 1981-1986 Zhilkin worked as a teacher, head teacher, headmaster of the school in the village Kamyzyakskogo Caspian region Astrakhan region.
since 1986 - at the Komsomol. In 1988 he became first secretary of the Komsomol, and later won the election of deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR. In August 1991, Zhilkin defended the White House.
From October 1991 to August 2004 he worked as first deputy head of administration of the Astrakhan region.
Since August 2004, Zhilkin was appointed acting head of administration of the Astrakhan region in connection with the death of former governor Anatoly Guzhvin.
Fifth December 2004 Zhilkin was elected governor of the Astrakhan region (received more than 60% of votes), December 23, assumed the position of the head region.
In 2006, he was the decree of the Russian President was introduced to the State Council Presidium of the Russian Federation.
Zhilkin - Ph.D. in Economics (1996), Sc.D. (2005), Associate Professor of Astrakhan State University (ASTU since 2003), Professor Emeritus ASTU (2005) .
He was awarded the Defender of Free Russia "(1993), the Order of Friendship (1998), Medal of Honor (2003), the Golden Order" Patron "(2005).
Zhilkin is married and has two daughters.
