Constitutional Court of Russia banned the death penalty.
In the Council of Europe was invited to Moscow only after the promise to abolish the death penalty.
RF Constitutional Court banned the death penalty in Russia and after January 1, 2010, when the ends in the country entered a moratorium on capital punishment. According to the chairman of the COP Valery Zorkin, the introduction to the whole territory of Russia from Jan. 1, 2010 jury trial does not mean that the country could impose the death penalty.
Constitutional Court extended maratory on the death penalty in Russia to ratify Protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights, which declared a complete rejection of the application of such punishment.
According to the protocol, in peacetime, no one can be sentenced to death or executed. Russia has not ratified the protocol number 6 to the European Convention on Human Rights, which prohibits the death penalty.
